John Calipari doesn’t really have high hopes against Kansas.

Don’t let the slick hair, expensive suits or alleged recruiting indiscretions fool you, John Calipari is a straight shooter.

When asked by a Kansas fan, who was rolling tape, if he were prepared to “take the L” when his 20th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats take on the No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday night, Calipari replied “yeah, we probably will” before flashing that million dollar smile.

Always the charmer, perhaps Coach Cal was having a little fun with the young fan. Or, maybe he just knows what everyone else on the planet knows, that being Kansas is crazy-good, coming off a tough loss, and ready to get back on track in a matchup between two of the most storied programs in hoops history.

I’m certain that Calipari will brush it off as a joke, but maybe he could have responded to the question with some other answers, for example:

“Well, we beat you by 32 last time we played.”

Sure, that was in 2014 and Kentucky was far more talented than they are now, but this team is not going to roll over. Kentucky has been playing some of the best ball of their season since a loss on Jan. 16 to Auburn, which brings me to another potential response.

“We’ve held our last three opponents to an average of 59 points per game, young bull.”

Really, there are a number of answers Coach Cal could have given here, but he chose to keep it real.
