The St. Louis Blues defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final.

The St. Louis Blues capitalized against their home ice advantage, despite being outshot by the San Jose Sharks 32-23.  Captain David Backes and forward Jori Lehtera are credited with the Blues’ two goals of the game, and Tomas Hertl earned the lone goal for the Sharks.

Both teams look to improve their performance in Game 2. The Sharks were certainly disappointed by their inability to produce goals on their 32 shots on goal, and their lack of power play opportunities deprived them of utilizing their dominant skills. The Blues, though victorious, weren’t celebrating after their victory. Head coach Ken Hitchcock noted that things need to change on the team, and we will surely see that tonight when the teams face off yet again in the Scottrade Center in St. Louis Minnesota. Dmitrij Jaskin took Vlamidir Tarasenko’s spot on the top line during the morning skate, but we’d expect tonight’s lineup to remain the same. STL line, comprised of Jaden Schwartz, Jori Lehtera and Tarasenko, will unquestionably be number one tonight, but dynamics may change during the game in order to provide the most effective play on the ice.

The Sharks trail the Blues 1-0 in the series and look to even the score tonight, Tuesday, May 17 in Game 2. The game will be aired on NBC Sports Network, and you can stream it online with NBC Sports Live Extra.
