DraftKings Late MLB Picks For May 21

There are 14 games tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bets:

Jose Fernandez (12,500): Fernandez has held the Nationals to a .205 average in 132 at bats while racking up 40 strikeouts. He has given up three homers, but has only allowed eight runs. Don’t use him at your own risk!

Jon Lester ($10,600): Lester has held the Giants to a .239 average in 67 at bats while allowing just three extra base hits and five runs. The bad news? He has only notched eight strikeouts. This is a steep price for someone that may not get enough strikeouts to be in the upper tier.

Honorable Mention:

Kevin Gausman ($7,500): Gausman has allowed the Angels to hit .255 off of him in 55 at bats, but he has only allowed one homer and four runs while striking out 11. The strikeouts will keep him near the upper tier.

Cesar Vargas ($5,800): Vargas started against the Dodgers back on April 29th and held them scoreless in 5.1 innings with allowing only four hits and striking out six. It was good enough for 19.2 points in DraftKings’s system, so he could be worth a look once again.

Dark Horses:

Cesar Ramos ($4,300): Ramos has held the Astros to a .200 average in 25 at bats while not allowing a run and striking out eight. These stats were mostly in relief, so can he do it as a starter?

Matt Shoemaker ($4,700): Shoemaker has held the Orioles to a ridiculous .107 average in 28 at bats with one person doing all the damage (more on that later) and racking up ten strikeouts. It’s a risk to use him against Baltimore, but the previous stats are enticing.

Giancarlo Stanton ($4,200) is 2-7 with a homer and two RBI off of Joe Ross.

Adam Jones ($4,100) is 2-6 with two homers and four RBI off of Matt Shoemaker. The rest of his temmates are 1-22(.045) with nine strikeouts.

Kris Bryant ($4,400) is 2-5 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI off of Matt Cain. Miguel Montero ($2,900) is 12-57(.211) off of Cain, but he has 11 walks, a double, three homers, and 11 RBI to go with it.

Mike Trout ($5,300) is hot of late, and is 2-5 with a walk and a solo homer off of Kevin Gausman.

Adrian Beltre ($3,500) is 2-3 with a solo shot off of Mike Fiers. Rougned Odor ($3,700) has a two run triple in three at bats.

Matt Kemp ($4,600) is 5-9 with a double and a solo homer so far off of Alex Wood.
