According to Elliotte Friedman, the Avalanche could be interested in trading for Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

The Colorado Avalanche are a team that will likely be aggressive as they try to add some pieces to their blue line, especially if they trade Tyson Barrie. Should they choose to go that route, one of the guys who they will likely be interested in is Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba.

“Tyson Barrie‘s future there is not that certain but I don’t think [the Avalanche] want to trade him until they can add some help,” said Elliotte Friedman, via Sportsnet. “I believe one of the targets is [Trouba]. I’m not saying Winnipeg’s going to do it, but I think that’s a player Colorado would like to get its hands on.”

Trading for Trouba could help the Avalanche offset the loss of Barrie should they choose to trade him. While his production and his puck possession stats have declined over the past three years, he’s still a pretty promising young defenseman at 22 years old. At 6’3″, he has better size than Barrie. Size is something that the Avalanche value highly, for better or for worse.

Despite Trouba’s struggles, he would still require a huge package in order to trade for him. It is not likely that the Avalanche would trade for Trouba unless they get rid of Barrie. Barrie could even be involved in a trade for Trouba. He would represent an upgrade for the Jets as they look to get more mobile.
