New Steph Curry ‘Chef ‘sneakers the subject of dad jokes

Twitter seems to have decided the Curry Two ‘Chef’ kicks say less street cred and more dad brand.

Steph Curry is having a rough last 24 hours. First the Cavs came to life and clobbered his Warriors in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, making it seem like it could be a series again and leaving some wondering if the reigning MVP is injured (again). Then his latest sneakers dropped.

Under normal circumstances, that would be a good thing, since Curry is the biggest jewel in Under Armour’s crown of endorsers, especially when it comes to basketball sneakers. But people just plain don’t seem to like the Curry Two “Chef” model.

Time compiled a pretty good summary of the initial Twitter reactions. Why the hate? People seem to have come to the conclusion that they look like the kind of plain sneakers a middle-aged dad would wear while mowing the lawn. And then that mental image just took on a life of its own.

The colorway is pretty plain, and could even fairly be called uninspired. They’re not cheap either, retailing for $119.99.

If you disagree, or if you happen to be a middle-aged dad who needs some new kicks that aren’t very flashy, you can order them online right now. In the meantime, we’ll be waiting on the Batman-inspired colorway that comes out Saturday, because those are shoes worth talking about — and maybe even the ones that Curry can wear to the rescue of the Warriors in game 4.
