A four-star recruit decommitted from Ohio State because Urban Meyer didn’t know who he was. That recruit has now found a home at USF.

A couple months ago, Bruce Judson had an encounter with Urban Meyer, the man who was supposed to be recruiting him. According to Judson, the encounter went something like this:

"MEYER: “Who are you?”JUDSON: “Bruce.”MEYER: “Oh, Bruce Judson from Florida. The speedy guy.”JUDSON: “Yeah.”MEYER: “I’m glad that you’re on board and glad you got up here.”"

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Judson now has a new home at USF. He’s from right down the street in Cocoa Beach, so picking a Florida school makes sense. He might not find the same level of success in terms of wins and losses at USF, but Judson went from a cog in the machine to the bell cow of USF’s recruiting class.

Judson looks pretty good in this video of practice, so Ohio State might have missed out on a pretty big recruit.

If you’re a college football coach, it might be wise to actually recognize the young men you’re recruiting, especially if you’re trying to sell them on a family atmosphere. Recruiting is becoming fraught with arrogance and glamour, but this isn’t about Judson at all. It’s about Meyer failing to recognize someone whom he would be partially responsible for in a year or so. That’s not a good look, I don’t care what way you slice it. Judson looks pretty happy to be at USF, so maybe Meyer might want to brush up on who he’s actually recruiting.
