Here is all you need to know about Germany’s upcoming match with Nigeria in the Olympics on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Alongside Brazil, Germany were the pre-tournament favorites, and that was without fielding their strongest possible under-23 squad — just another example of the fruitful harvest the World Champions are enjoying at this moment in time.

Also like the hosts, the Germans started slowly, registering a pair of frustrating draws. However, after smashing ten past minnows Fiji to close out their group in second position behind South Korea, Germany have finally hit their stride, and in Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry, may well have the player of the tournament.

Gnabry has scored in each of his four games — six goals in total — and has emerged as the spark in a talented German side. They established their quality in the quarter-finals with a 4-0 pummelling of a well-fancied Portugal side, and are expected to progress to the final and a doubtless mouth-watering showdown with hosts Brazil.

First, though, they must overcome the ‘Dream Team’. Nigeria have been utterly impressive throughout the tournament, drafting in Chelsea’s Jon Obi-Mikel to captain the side. They won a tough group, saw past Denmark in comfortable fashion and will be no pushovers for the Germans.

This is certainly the tighter of the semi-finals, and while it would be nice to see Nigeria in the final, missing out on a Germany-Brazil rematch after the embarrassment in the World Cup would be a shame.
