Here’s everything you need to know about Brazil’s upcoming gold-medal match with Germany on Saturday, Aug. 20.

In what has been dubbed the most important gold medal in the whole Olympics, the hosts are now only one match away from securing sporting immortality. Heralded as unbeatable by home fans, Brazil stuttered to two goalless draws to open the competition. Since then, their form has improved significantly, culminating in a 6-0 dismantling of Honduras in the semi-finals. They will by no means be handed the gold medal, however.

Perhaps the team of the tournament, Germany have been mightily impressive throughout the past two weeks. Lead by Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry, who has been the player of the tournament by some distance (six goals in five game), this German side have, like the hosts, improved round on round and saw past a challenging Nigeria side with relative ease, winning 2-0 in the end.

The match, played at the national Maracana stadium, will be a chance for redemption for Brazil in a stadium that will bring back haunting memories. Embarrassed, humiliated and vilified by their fans in the world cup after a 7-1 pummeling at the hands of the ruthless Germans, Brazilian football has been waiting for a chance to redeem itself. There is no better way to do so than in the same stadium at which such a beating was taken. Can the hosts deliver?
