Andres Iniesta has scored Barcelona’s fourth goal of the evening with a scintillating volley, smashing the ball home from a Neymar cross.

Volleys are a category of goal set off on their own. From the wonders of a Robin Van Persie left foot strike, caressed with power, pace and precision into the bottom corner from a looping cross to the sheer brutality of a ferocious Paul Scholes thronker, ripping through the ball as if his job was to the throttle the life out of it.

Witnessing the technique needed to undertake such a difficult skill is a special occasion. Barcelona and Andres Iniesta have once again shown the world the wonders of their talents in every facet of the game.

Not known for getting the ball wide and into the box, Barcelona’s ability is often confined to the football on the carpet. Well, not on Tuesday. In their opening Champions League match of the 2016-17 season, the Catalan giants hosted Scottish champions Celtic and gave them a lesson.

After two goals from Messi and a free kick from Neymar, Iniesta decided to add the icing to the cake with a sumptuous volley. Neymar with ball wide left, looked up, spotted his Spanish teammate, clipped a cross into the edge of the area which Iniesta duly swiveled and smashed home in emphatic style. It is a sensational goal, gives Barcelona their fourth of the night and confirms the beauty of the volley for all to see.
