England face Malta at Wembley on Saturday, Oct. 8. Here’s all the information you need to know.

It has been somewhat of a troublesome few weeks for the English national team. Only 67 days after being hired for what he rather prematurely described as his “dream job,” Sam Allardyce was duly sent packing thanks to an undercover Telegraph investigation which highlighted Allardyce’s dealings with potential buyers and agents, helping them to circumnavigate many FA rules and bulk up his own pay packet at the same time.

Gareth Southgate is now the caretaker manager and has been given four matches at a minimum to lead the national side. His first is, rather kindly, at home to Malta, which should be a comfortable win for the Three Lions. While Harry Kane, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling are absent due to various injuries, Southgate still has a formidable squad that should beat Malta without too many issues.

It is set to be an intriguing game, perhaps more for the off-field controversies as much as the talent actually on the pitch. However, with England looking to continue on from Allardyce’s 100 percent record, the pressure is still on.

Will England be able to put the past two weeks behind them with a much-needed win, or will Malta step up as the party poopers and pour the misery on a team that is now being described as a “laughing stock” by its own players?
