The New York Mets have been able to sign outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. Does that mean they will be attempting to trade an outfielder?

On Tuesday, the New York Mets were able to accomplish their biggest offseason goal. The signing of Yoenis Cespedes was a must for the franchise, and they got a deal done quickly. The four-year, $110 million contract will keep the heart and soul of the Mets lineup in Queens for the next few seasons.

However, the signing of Cespedes does create a bit of a logjam in the outfield. As of now, the Mets have six outfielders with decent experience at the major league level. The trade that brought Jay Bruce to New York last season was not only to help them win but also for insurance in case Cespedes left in free agency.

Due to Cespedes coming back, many believed that it would be Bruce who was on the trading block. While the Mets will surely listen to offers on him, Adam Rubin is reporting that it could be Curtis Granderson that is traded instead.

Both players only have one year left on their deals, as the Mets exercised the option on Bruce this offseason. Granderson is set to make a few more million dollars this coming season, and that could be why the Mets will try to trade him.

While the deal for Cespedes was a great one for the Mets, it was also expensive. The Mets would still like to upgrade their bullpen, and possibly at catcher. To do so, they will need some money.

Teams that missed out on Cespedes might be the ones that turn their attentions to Granderson. The San Francisco Giants have been looking to upgrade their outfield, and Granderson would be a good fit there. In addition to the Giants, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking for options in the outfield as well.

It will be interesting to see what the Mets do with Granderson this offseason. He has been a good player for them, but moving him might be necessary.
