Geico Las Vegas Bowl Odds And Prediction
Bowl season is finally upon us! With the Army-Navy game last weekend, we didn’t even have to go a whole week without a game! First up is the Gildan New Mexico Bowl!

The bowl season kicks off with six games tomorrow. It’s almost like a whole football Saturday! I will not make a pick for the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I wouldn’t be doing you any justice there. The only 1-AA teams I have watched are North Dakota State and Youngstown State. I wouldn’t be making an educated pick.
However, for the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread and point wagers just like I did all season long. I didn’t have a great regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!
Just in case you missed any:
Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Houston(-4.5) vs. San Diego State at Las Vegas, NV(3):
Houston(9-3, 5-3 AAC)
Wins: vs. Oklahoma(33-23), vs. Lamar(42-0), at Cincinnati(40-16), at Texas State(64-3), vs. Connecticut(42-14), vs. Tulsa(38-31), vs. Central Florida(31-24), vs. Tulane(30-18), vs. Louisville(36-10)
Losses: at Navy(40-46), at SMU(16-38), at Memphis(44-48)
Houston turned a lot of heads when they beat Oklahoma in the opener. All of the talking heads were talking about Houston not just crashing the New Years Six, but crashing the Playoff! The wheels fell off In November, as Houston stumbled to a 2-2 finish. They have a good offense and good defense, but do they really want to be in this game after so much more was expected?
Record vs. bowl teams: 4-2
San Diego State(10-3, 7-2 Mountain West)
Wins: vs. New Hampshire(31-0), vs. California(45-40), at Northern Illinois(42-28), vs. UNLV(26-7), at Fresno State(17-3), vs. San Jose State(42-3), at Utah State(40-13), vs. Hawaii(55-0), at Nevada(46-16), at Wyoming(27-24)
Losses: at South Alabama(24-42), at Wyoming(33-34), vs. Colorado State(31-63)
Donnel Pumphrey will cap off his stellar career here. He needs just 108 yards to become the all time leading rusher in FBS football history. He isn’t the only weapon the Aztecs have. Rashaad Penny will certainly top 1000 yards on the season in this game as well.
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-3
Prediction:
Houston has a solid run defense. The game within the game will be trying to stop Pumphrey from reaching the milestone. Pumphrey will be the first to tell you that he would rather win the game than get the record. That could be the deciding factor in the game. After such a strong start, I think Houston is very disappointed in winding up in this game. Pick the team that wants to be here.
Pick: San Diego State
