Ohio vs. Troy(-6.5) at Mobile, AL(2):
Ohio (8-5, 6-3 MAC)
Wins: at Kansas(37-21), vs. Gardner-Webb(37-21), at Miami(OH)(17-7), vs. Bowling Green(30-24), at Kent State(14-10), at Toledo(31-26), vs. Buffalo(34-10), vs. Akron(9-3)
Losses: vs. Texas State(54-56), at Tennessee(19-28), vs. Eastern Michigan(20-27), at Central Michigan(20-27), vs. Western Michigan(23-29)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-4
Freshman Quinton Maxwell has had a solid freshman season, but this team is better with Greg Windham under center. Sebastian Smith is a good receiver in a conference full of them. Ohio was awful in the opener, but they rebounded nicely against Tennessee in Knoxville. Since then, they have had a solid team, and as good as the offense has been, the defense is the heart of this team. I went to the Kansas game earlier this year. At one point in the game, Kansas had more touchdowns (two) than first downs (one). That is a testament to the defense.
Troy (9-3, 6-2 Sun Belt):
Wins: vs. Austin Peay (57-17), at Southern Mississippi(37-31), vs. New Mexico State(52-6), at Idaho(34-13), vs. Georgia State(31-21), at South Alabama(28-21), vs. Massachusetts(52-31), vs. Appalachian State(28-24), at Texas State(40-7)
Losses: at Clemson(24-30), vs. Arkansas State(3-35), at Georgia Southern(24-28)
Record vs. bowl teams: 4-2
Troy is a dangerous team. They nearly took down Clemson on the road early in the season. However, they did stumble to the finish line getting pasted by Arkansas State at home, and losing to a pesky Georgia Southern team. Troy is one of the more balanced offenses in a conference that features a few option attacks, and a couple of spread ones. Did they help their record?
Prediction:
This is essentially a home game for Troy. Mobile is only a little more than an hour away from campus. That gives the Trojans an advantage, but how they played down the stretch makes me a little nervous. I also think that Ohio is the best defense they have face since Clemson. That said, when Troy is on, they can hang with anyone. Just ask Clemson
Pick: Troy
