The 2015 MLS Cup Champions Portland Timbers have gone with a classic look ahead of the 2017 season.

On Wednesday, the Timbers announced that they will be going back to a classic look with their primary jersey in 2017. The green and gold of the original Portland Timbers will be back, leaving behind the green and yellow they used in seasons past.

This years jersey is chalked full of symbolic designs that pay homage to the city of Portland and even their 2015 MLS Cup victory over the Columbus Crew. The jersey includes the Portland city flag, the ‘Stand Together’ axes behind the neck and even some famous chants on the inside of the jersey.

The green and gold of the mid 1970’s to early 1980’s NASL Timbers has a strong tie to the current team. Portland was awarded a soccer team in 1975, and during that same year, the Timbers made it all the way to the Soccer Bowl against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Timbers lost the match, but the fans were very intrigued with their new team..

The Timbers went on to make the playoffs three times before they folded in 1982, but the green and gold was predominately used in the clubs first run as a professional team.
