You do us dirty every time, Blizzard. Just give us the hero already.

Blizzard is the king at riling up loyal fans into an uproar. Either that, or the Overwatch community is just extremely prone to getting riled up.

This past week, the official Overwatch Twitter account has been sharing tweets that serve to further the lore around the story of the game. Both tweets have caused players to start speculating wildly about what new content Blizzard may have planned for the immensely popular shooter.

First, Overwatch posted an interview with an 11-year-old scientist and inventor named Efi Oladele.

Efi is a genius from Numbani, which happens to also be Lucio’s hometown. More importantly, Numbani is also where Doomfist’s gauntlet currently resides. This connection immediately revived discussions about Doomfist becoming Overwatch‘s next new hero.

However, fans quickly also shut that speculation down, pointing to Jeff Kaplan’s comment on Overwatch‘s official forums. A user posted in a thread, asking the Overwatch team to post a list of heroes they were working on. Kaplan responded, “24 is not who you think it is.”

With that in mind, the rumor mill moved away from Doomfist and settled on a spider robot called Anchora, which has been glimpsed in game images displayed at conferences and also in Sombra’s animated short. Presumably, Anchora would be one of Efi’s creations and would be a tank character.

As these discussions raged, Overwatch‘s Twitter dropped another tweet to build upon their previous one, and this one took the form of breaking news.

This development, of course, touches upon many things.

First of all, the connection to Efi’s interview is obvious. In the interview, Efi speaks about the fact that she and her parents are about to embark on a trip to celebrate her accomplishments. “It’ll be my first time flying, so I can’t wait,” she says.

Well, she won’t be flying anytime soon, as the attack on the airport has caused all flights to be grounded. However, Efi is okay. Redditors quickly spotted that the photo featured on the breaking news reported was credited to Efi, meaning she took the photo.

With this new addition to the lore, Overwatch players have started speculating even more fiercely. Currently, the most prominent theory is that Doomfist is the one responsible for the pictured attacked, especially considering that players on the PTR have discovered that the glass around the gauntlet on Numbani’s payload has been shattered, the gauntlet gone.

However, since Kaplan essentially did say that the next hero is not Doomfist, many players think that not just one, but two heroes are in our future.

At this point, that’s what we are all dreaming.

But we won’t know the truth until we get some more information, as that is the Blizzard way. Fans are hoping that Overwatch will release more information this coming Tuesday, as that is usually a day when developer updates are announced.
