John Ross ran a blazing fast 40 time at the NFL combine. But did he win an island?

The Washington wide receiver John Ross was expected to run a blazing 40 time at the NFL, but he exceeded expectation. The 4.22 he was unofficially clocked at is absolutely insane. Adidas had promised an island to any player who broke Chris Johnson’s 40 record set in 2008.  But alas, Ross will not receive an island — he was wearing Nike shoes, not Adidas. However, he could be compensated with rising draft stock thanks to his insane speed. The crazy thing is, Ross was cramping before his run and his labrum is torn.

Now, the NFL Network times are  hand-timed, so we won’t know if Ross broke Johnson’s record until later. The official times are laser-timed, so they’ll be exact, while hand times tend to be a bit off. The sad part of the whole situation is that Ross is done for the day because he suffered cramps and will not participate in any other drills, per Kimberly Jones.

Ross is unbelievably fast. He’s truly gifted as an athlete, and his type of speed only comes along every once in a while. John Ross is an amazing wide receiver as well, having a ton of production at the college level catching the ball and returning it. He’s expected to go in the middle of the first round, but with an amazing 40 time like that, who knows how high he’ll go?
