2017 NFL Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky to 49ers
By Brad Weiss
In a season with so much promise, the Oakland Raiders had one of the worst end to the seasons that we have seen in a long time. Up 20 points in the fourth quarter of their Week 16 win agaisnt the Indianapolis Colts, star quarterback Derek Carr broke his leg on a quarterback sack. The loss of Carr would have a devastating effect on the Raiders, who lost control of the AFC West title in their Week 17 loss to the Denver Broncos.
When it came time for their first playoff game since 2002, the Raiders went with Connor Cook at quarterback, a rookie who had never started an NFL game before. The result was pretty much what you would expect, as the Houston Texans beat them soundly. As the Raiders look towards 2017, they have to be happy with the direction of the team, though their usually suspect secondary could use a major upgrade.
The team brought in Sean Smith last offseason, plucking the cornerback from the rival Kansas City Chiefs. Smith was nowhere near the player he was on the Chiefs, as he was continuously burnt throughout the season. Quincy Wilson of Florida is one of the best corners in this draft, and bringing him in would give the Raiders the kind of upgrade they have been looking for at the position for some time now.
