PIttsburgh Steelers draft rumors include a visit with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Dobbs.

The Steelers draft rumors heat up with a quarterback filled schedule. It’s certainly no secret that the Steelers have to be thinking about life after Ben Roethlisberger. He’s an aging quarterback who has endured numerous injuries throughout his time in Pittsburgh. This year’s NFL Draft prospects, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Dobbs met with the Steelers on Monday.

Patrick Mahomes has been climbing up the draft boards of late. He’s expected to go in the first two rounds of the draft, according to some of the NFL Draft analysts. Mahomes posted enormous numbers in his time at Texas Tech. He finished up with over 11,000 passing yards and 93 touchdowns in a pass-happy system. Josh Dobbs is a player who’s had a very productive career at Tennessee. With over 7.000 passing yards and 53 touchdowns, Dobbs is a natural playmaker.

If the Steelers are looking to find an heir to Big Ben, it might cost them a high pick. We could be looking at something similar to what the Green Bay Packers did with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. The Packers didn’t really need a starting quarterback right away, as Favre was still there. They fell in love with Rodgers and drafted him to sit and learn for a few seasons.

Pittsburgh could end up doing the same thing. If they really like a guy like Mahomes, then why not pull the trigger and draft him. He can practice and learn from a great player like Ben Roethlisberger for a few years. Even though the quarterback position isn’t a major need at this moment for the Steelers, it wouldn’t hurt to have some insurance by taking Mahomes or Dobbs in the draft.

The Steelers draft rumors surrounding the quarterback position makes a powerful statement. Do the Steelers have faith in Roethlisberger to continue playing at a high level? Are they afraid of him suffering another injury? Most likely they are wanting to simply prepare for life after Ben. It’s a smart move. And who knows, maybe their guy will fall right into their lap come draft day.
