Although some questioned the trade rumors involving Richard Sherman weeks ago, the Seattle Seahawks have confirmed they are actually true.

Rumors started swirling around social media a few weeks ago that the Seattle Seahawks could be open to dealing star cornerback Richard Sherman. Surely there was no way these rumors were real, right?

Wrong. Seahawks general manager John Schneider went on 710 ESPN Seattle and let it be known that Sherman actually is available for trade. In fact, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN, Schneider said “what you’ve seen lately in the news is real. On both sides.”

This is surprising, especially in today’s NFL. Usually you’ll see a general manager or head coach shoot down the rumors when they’re brought up by the media. Yet Schneider let it be known that they have nothing to hide and Sherman is actually available for trade.

Sherman is set to to make roughly $22 million over the final two years on his contract, that’s a nice chunk of change. While Schneider is letting it be known Sherman is available, completing an actual trade will be tough. Given Sherman’s large contract, finding a team with the cap space and the assets Seattle will be looking for in return makes a trade unlikely.

There is another side to this trade rumor as well. Sherman is known to be a highly outspoken player with an ego bigger than his extensive frame. Maybe this is Schneider letting it be known to Sherman that the Seahawks think they’ll be just fine without him.

Either way, there is certainly something brewing in Seattle. Whether it results in a blockbuster trade or not remains to be seen. Yet everyone in and around the NFL will be keeping their eyes on the intriguing situation.
