The Replay: The best NBA bromances

facebooktwitterreddit

Let’s be honest. The NBA playoffs have been a little lackluster so far. A Cavaliers vs. Warriors rematch feels like a foregone conclusion. Kawhi Leonard is still a robot. What else is new?

With this, El (@eswagedorn) and Al (@AliCShow) looked for inspiration for this week’s podcast outside of the playoffs… And they found it in 2008 Celtics reunion. Kevin Garnett (or @tic_pix as we affectionately call him) hosted a mini-reunion of the championship Celtics team on his TNT show Area 21. As the kids say, it was “lit”. So lit that Paul Pierce wore sunglasses the entire time.

El and Al offer their deep analysis of this amazing interaction between KG, Pierce, Kendrick Perkins, Big Baby and Rondo. Our main takeaway is that this Celtics team was extremely close, basically one big bromance. Even Doc Rivers and his raspy voice called in to be a part of the bromantic gathering! Noticeably absent, and eventually a topic of conversation for the group was Ray Allen. His abrupt departure from Boston has still not been forgiven. The group said they were still “salty,” an adjective we plan to use more often in daily life.

Listen: Preparing for a post-Truth NBA

We can all agree that there are few things in life worse than a soured NBA bromance. Therefore, it felt appropriate to appreciate all the great ones we’ve had. Al pays homage to the dynamic duo of Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash while El gives the Stache Brothers some love. And we speculate as to what might happen to the league’s current greatest love affair — Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

DeMar seems supportive now but what will really happen if/when Kyle crosses the border for another team?! Only time will tell for the rapturous Raptors. We end with a game about free agents, predicting their next career moves if they fail to sign with another NBA team. Let’s just say if Gordon Hayward does not find a home in the NBA, he has a future with El.
