Everton: Cenk Tosun

Everton are tired of being just a little less than the best. You can see it when they play. You can hear it in every press release and interview with their players and manager. They want to make the jump to relevance.

The first thing they’ll need is for someone other than Romelu Lukaku to score some goals. The Belgian was responsible for 24 of the Toffees’ 58 league goals this season. There’s a possibility he’ll leave this summer, but with two more years on his contract, Everton don’t need to sell immediately. But if he stays, he’ll need help.

Cenk Tosun is the best player on the best team in Turkey, Besiktas. While that doesn’t mean as much as it used to, it at least means that he warrants attention. And there’s a lot to like about him once you’re looking.

The Turkish forward is capable of scoring on his own, having had to create a number of his own chances since joining the Super Lig. At the moment, he’s gunning for the scoring title while leading his team to a league win. Describing him feels like describing a Mazda MX5: fast, agile and surprisingly powerful.

Tosun’s an excellent finisher and skillful in possession. If nothing else, he’d be entertaining to watch, and would add to Everton’s attacking options with or without Lukaku.
