DraftKings MLB Picks For June 5

We only have 14 games in our main DraftKings tournament tonight. The Cubs and Cardinals play a matinee at Wrigley. This is a pitching-rich slate, even outside of Kershaw. Who is worth paying up for? Are there cheap options so we can stack against Kyle Gibson? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night held steady at 113.2 DraftKings points, which was surprising considering Justin Verlander and Trevor Bauer both left their contests early. My lineup with them in it just missed the money. My Tigers stack kept me in it.

The winning lineup was up to 213.7 DraftKings points. He used Kenta Maeda and Chris Sale, and had enormous games from Danny Santana, Zack Cozart, and Ender Inciarte. All of them are in action again tonight, so beware of high ownership!

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 25, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez (47) pitches against the Seattle Mariners at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Gio Gonzalez ($8,000): Gonzalez has led the Dodgers to a .173 average in 81 at bats with no homers and just six runs scored. The 17 strikeouts is nothing to write home about, but Gonzalez is a strong play tonight. He has a 2.25 career ERA at Dodger Stadium in three career starts there.

P:  Junior Guerra ($7,600): Junior Guerra has been outstanding so far this year. In three starts, he has a 1.84 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. He wont rack up a ton of strikeouts, but he is facing a Giants lineup that has been average at best for most of the season. Jeff Samardzija‘s hot streak seems to be over, so I have no reservations about using Guerra here. He should have at least one more really good start in him.

C:  J.T. Realmuto ($3,700): Realmuto is perfect in his career against Eddie Butler. He has two singles, a double, a triple, a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI in his career against him. Realmuto is hitting in the middle of this order, which could score quite a few runs tonight. I definitely want a piece of this!

1B: Justin Bour ($5,000): Bour has been the hottest hitter in the league since the beginning of May. He is also 3-4 with a walk, a homer, two doubles, and two RBI against Butler in his career.

2B: Cesar Hernandez ($3,500): Do you really need a reason to play anyone against 43-year-old Bartolo Colon and his 6.99 ERA? You do? Okay, Hernandez is 9-26(.346) with a walk, two doubles, four runs scored, three RBI in his career against Colon. Hernandez is leading off for a team that should score a lot of runs. Count me in!

3B: Kris Bryant ($4,500): Bryant is 4-7 with a double, two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Dan Straily. Straily will rack up some strikeouts, but the Cubs are hitting .314 off of him, and he has a huge park downgrade going into Wrigley Field. There is nothing wrong with using a few Cubs here.

SS: Trea Turner ($4,900): Turner will be leading off against Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is kind of hit and miss with his success. The Nationals are definitely more lethal against right handed pitching, but not to the point where they will be shut down. I want the leadoff hitter here.

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($5,100): Stanton is 4-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored in his career against Eddie Butler. Someone with Stanton’s power is always worth a look at Wrigley with someone like Butler on the mound who doesn’t record a lot of strikeouts.

OF: Ender Inciarte ($4,000): Inciarte had a big day yesterday. His reward is a game against rookie Nick Pavetta and his 5.12 ERA. He has only started one home game so far. He gave up four runs in five innings. Look out for Braves bats tonight.

OF: Matt Adams ($3,700): Adams continues to rake filling in for Freddie Freeman. The best part is that he is eligible in the outfield so you can put him there if you have other first basemen that you want to use like I do. I like him against Nick Pavetta, and why not? This is a hitter’s park!

May 26, 2017; Milwaukee, WI, USA; Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Junior Guerra (41) throws a pitch during the first inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Miller Park. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Junior Guerra ($7,600): That’s right, I’m using Guerra in both lineups. I only see three pitchers that I would even like to consider tonight. Sean Manaea is tempting, but I would rather use Guerra against the Giants twice than roll the dice with Manaea against Toronto once.

More from FanSided

P: J.A. Happ ($7,300): The A’s are hitting just .197 in 76 at bats against Happ with only one homer and four runs. The 15 strikeouts isn’t great, but this is one of the best pitcher’s parks in the league with a mediocre offense inside of it. Happ is way too cheap tonight!

C: Brian McCann ($3,600): McCann is 6-22(.273) with two walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI in his career against Ian Kennedy. He has also stolen a base! Don’t expect a steal here, but he is one of the cheaper Astros that you can get your hands on tonight. That works for me!

1B: Matt Carpenter ($3,700): Carpenter is off to a slow start this year, hitting just .216 on the year, but he does have nine homers. Tonight he gets the privilege of facing Asher Wojciechowski, owner of a 5.63 ERA. He was solid in his only appearance this year, but his start at Toronto didn’t go so well. St. Louis has enough talent to warrant a stack here.

2B: Jose Altuve ($5,800): Altuve is only 2-8 against Kennedy, but he has a walk and a solo homer to show for it. Altuve is very expensive, but with the way Kennedy is pitching right now, I want the catalyst of this offense in my lineup.

3B: Jedd Gyorko ($3,900): Gyorko is hitting .321 with eight homers in 44 games this year. He looks very underpriced against Wojciechowski considering the power potential and the hitter’s park that he finds himself in tonight.

SS: Zack Cozart ($4,200): Cozart is 6-19(.316) with a double, a triple, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Carlos Martinez. The Reds are hitting .279 with five homers and 14 RBI in 111 at bats against Martinez. There is no way Martinez is worth that lofty price tag, especially at Great American Ballpark, tonight.

OF: Carlos Beltran ($4,600): Oh, the Astros are expensive, but they need to be. Ian Kennedy has been largely a disaster since coming off of the disabled list. On top of that, he is a fly ball pitcher anyway. Beltran is 6-24 with five walks, a double, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Kennedy. Can Beltran relive his glory days at Kaufmann Stadium, even though he likely doesn’t recognize the bleachers that he used to hit it into there early in his career?

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,600): Duvall is 3-5 with a homer and two RBI in his career against Carlos Martinez. Duvall has 14 homers already this season. Surprisingly, most of them have come on the road. No matter. That stat is due for an adjustment considering the home park.

OF: Christian Yelich ($4,500): I couldn’t fit Yelich in with the rest of my Marlins, but he deserves exposure as well, batting near the top of the order against Eddie Butler at Wrigley tonight. Butler often lives dangerously, and there are a ton of lefty bats in this lineup. Yelich is 2-6 with a run scored and two RBI against Butler so far, and is in a prime position to do some more tonight.
