George Hill inks three-year, $57 million deal with Sacramento Kings

George Hill has signed a three-year, $57 million deal with the Sacramento Kings. Hill will now take the reigns as the Kings starting point guard.

George Hill has found a new home. After meeting Lakers earlier in the week, the California rival Sacramento Kings were able to lure away George Hill on a lucrative contract. Hill has agreed to a three-year deal worth $57 million to sign in Sacramento. Hill will join a point guard group of recent draftees De’Aaron Fox and Frank Mason.

Hill spent this past season with the Jazz. After Utah decided to trade for Ricky Rubio, Hill became expendable. Then again, that decision may come back to haunt the team as Hill was reportedly really close with Gordon Hayward (but that story remains to be seen). Hill turned down a four-year, $80 million extension from Utah last year which obviously will come back to haunt Hill after landing with the Kings on a shorter deal.

Hill, 31, has been plagued by injuries late in his career. The Jazz starting point guard has played less than 50 games two of the past three years. The new Kings point guard also missed the final three games of the playoff series against the Warriors which hurt his free agent stock.

The fit with the Kings is an interesting one given the youth movement. De’Aaron Fox will now have to learn from Hill before taking the lead role.  Nevertheless, Hill is a really productive player that makes the Kings better right away. Hill, 31, averaged 16.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists during the 2016-17 regular season.
