With a ton of firsts already happening in WWE’s women’s division over the last year, we may have one more to add coming soon.

In the last year, we’ve seen the first women’s Hell in a Cell match, the first women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and it looks like we may have some more firsts to add to the list in the next six months.

WWE already has a women’s singles tournament coming soon to the WWE Network this summer, and to add onto the history, it looks like they want to capitalize on some momentum for another big gimmick match.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been early discussions about WWE possibly holding a Women’s Royal Rumble in January alongside the men’s match, similar to how we saw a Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match back in June.

They may not be able to get themselves a full 30-woman Royal Rumble with the current roster, but it’s a promising idea giving the brand split and loaded talent pool on each show at the moment.

In addition to the Rumble, we may see another first following some other traditions, as it looks like there may be a women’s tag team tournament being created for the summer, following suit with the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic that NXT held in the last two years. The timeframe would have to be figured out to coincide with the singles tournament, but it’s a solid step in the right direction.

Some may be upset at the overload of women’s gimmick matches over the last year, with the idea of too much coming at once for the women’s division. On the other side, it’s a good look for WWE to take advantage of the large crop of women’s talent they have on their roster at the moment.
