Kyrie Irving puts Knicks, Spurs, and others on desired list

Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. What teams would he desire to play for?

Kyrie Irving doesn’t want to play with LeBron James anymore. While this seems shocking on the surface, Irving reportedly desires a bigger playing role on another team leading to a trade request. Irving prefers to be dealt to the Spurs but also listed a bunch of other suitable teams he would be interested playing for.

Chris Haynes of ESPN first reported the news on which teams Irving would like to play for:

Kyrie’s agent Jeff Wechsler spoke with Brian Windhorst recently and did not offer up any details for what went on in this meeting with the team.

"“Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team,” Wechsler told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private.”"

It’s tough to conjure up trade possibilities to all of the teams Haynes mentioned. Would the Cavs really want to take a bad contract back like LaMarcus Aldridge or Tony Parker? Would Cleveland really take Goron Dragic and parts as a fair trade package? Outside of Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks don’t have much to offer either. Even the Timberwolves are pretty limited after dealing for Jimmy Butler.

The only problem with this request is that Irving does not have a no-trade clause. Cleveland could just simply trade him for the best pure offer. Off the top of my head, the Celtics simply have the most assets in the league and could blow the Cavs away with an offer of Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and 800 first round picks.
