NFL Rumors: Cowboys release WR Lucky Whitehead after arrest
The Dallas Cowboys have been dealing with legal issues with various players all week. Looks like they’ve had enough, as they’re releasing Lucky Whitehead.
The Dallas Cowboys have had a tumultuous week to say the least. Their star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, is involved in some legal trouble after a nightclub incident. Their draft pick, Jourdan Lewis, is in court for a domestic incident from his days at Michigan.
The next thing to add to the list is the arrest of WR Lucky Whitehead. The receiver — primarily, returner — was arrested on June 22 after a shoplifting incident in Virginia. He was charged with misdemeanor petty larceny in June. On July 6, Whitehead failed to show up in court for his arraignment and an arrest warrant was issued.
With another court hearing scheduled in the next two weeks, the Dallas Cowboys decided they had enough of Whitehead. Per NFL.com’s Jane Slater, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are releasing Whitehead.
Slater also went on to add in a subsequent tweet that Whitehead had a great bond with his teammates and will definitely be missed by those in Silver and Blue.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport fully describes what’s been happening with Whitehead on Monday in this clip below:
As soon as the release of Whitehead was official, his agent, David Rich, spoke out to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, adding that Whitehead wasn’t even in Virginia at the time of the incident and was on his way to Dallas.
This situation seems to get crazier and crazier. One one hand, Whitehead is out of a job and is being tracked down for his arrest, while his agent is claiming that he wasn’t even in the area, with valid proof.

Definitely try and monitor this situation closely, as the Cowboys continue to battle legal issues in advance of their training camp in Oxnard, CA.
