The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a trade with the White Sox. Chicago will send Melky Cabrera and cash to the Royals for two minor leaguers.

The Kansas City Royals are loading up for another run at a World Series title. With Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, and Lorenzo Cain all scheduled for free agency at the end of the year, the Royals are loading up for one last run. Earlier this week, KC also dealt for Trevor Cahill, Ryan Buchter, and Brandon Maurer from the Padres to add to their pitching depth. This time they have reached a deal for White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera.

The White Sox officially announced the trade:

Ken Rosenthal later added that the White Sox will play half of the remaining $5.1 million of Cabrera’s contract for this season. Cabrera will likely settle in at left field for a majority of the time as Alex Gordon is hitting just .201 on the season. Cabrera could also see time at DH as well with Brandon Moss also slumping (.210 average). In a corresponding move, the Royals will designate Andrew Edwards for assignment to make room for the new addition.

The youth movement in Chicago continues as they add to an already packed farm system. Puckett comes over being the No. 13 prospect in the Royals system. Chicago also added Blake Rutherford and Eloy Jimenz in the recent Todd Frazier and Jose Quintana trades.

With the Cubs dominating the Chicago market, the White Sox are simply loading up as many youngsters as they can to start over. If they all pan out, the White Sox could be a dangerous team in a few years. Of course with any prospect, they are always far from a sure thing as many never produce at the big league level.
