You better believe that hearty durian is involved.

Cooking is a pretty big part of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are tons of collectible ingredients found within the game’s vast open world, and players have spent many joyous hours throwing different combinations of them into cooking pots littered across the map.

Cooking is also not just a frivolous side activity. Depending on the ingredients you combine, cooking food and consuming it can restore Link’s health as well as imbue him with incredibly useful stat buffs, like higher defense or faster movement.

There’s also the fact that Link looks adorable when he cooks.

Anyone who has played Breath of the Wild knows the magic of cooking. But anyone who has actually cooked knows its way more complicated than just throwing ingredients into a cooking pot and staring at it.

Lucky for us, the chef behind popular YouTube channel Binging With Babish has figured out how to actually make some of Link’s dishes from the game. He even shows us how to do it over an open fire next to a lake, just in case you want the authentic experience.

Of course, the best ingredient in the game is hearty durian, a spiky yellow fruit that gives Link a ton of extra health when cooked. In reality, durian is not quite as desired due to its pungent smell which has been compared to everything from sweaty gym socks to rotting flesh.

Babish, however, is a true Breath of the Wild fan. He ends the video by recreating the game’s monster cake, complete with durian-infused icing. He is certainly a braver soul than we are. We wish him well on his journey to defeat Calamity Ganon.
