Will the ninjas competing at Daytona Beach have better luck on their city finals course than the city finals so far of American Ninja Warrior?

American Ninja Warrior season 9 has had some seriously nasty city finals courses so far. In Los Angeles, just four competitors actually made it to the top of the Elevator Climb and hit the buzzer. San Antonio was even worse. Only Daniel Gil managed to knock the entire course out.

Perhaps for this reason, ANW also called in Gil to help introduce fans to the new obstacle at the Daytona Beach city finals.

It has the name of the Giant Cubes:

The Daytona Beach course might just have more finishers, if only because the Giant Cubes actually let competitors use their feet to support their body weight for part of the obstacle instead of relying completely on arm strength.

According to the press description, that minor break (and make no mistake, it’s very minor because the first half of the course still has Rolling Thunder) will precede the Circuit Board and the Elevator Climb, with the Salmon Ladder as always welcoming competitors into the new portion of the city finals course.

Of course, we’d have to bet on Drew Drechsel, mentioned by the press page, to beat the course. Daytona Beach had a lot of finishers in the qualifiers, though, including Kevin Carbone, Brett Sims, JJ Woods, and Tyler Gillett. Speaking of challengers, take a look at the below video for Jessie Graff:

If you pay close attention, you can spot her on the Circuit Board, which is the second-to-last obstacle on the course by process of elimination. Could she actually finish the finals course? Either way, she’d make it further than any woman has so far on a finals course this season.

How exactly will ANW count the transition from the Salmon Ladder to the Giant Cubes? Depending on how the night plays out, this might actually come into play when determining who makes the Las Vegas finals.
