Jim Harbaugh is keeping his Michigan Wolverines roster a secret, and will only reveal it the week of the first game.

While many college football teams have already released their rosters for the 2017 season, some even releasing a depth chart for the local media, Jim Harbaugh has yet to even update the team’s roster.

Harbaugh likes doing crazy things during his time as a head coach, from having sleepovers with recruits, to taking his team to Rome for spring practice. He loves putting himself ahead of other coaches, whether it is in recruiting or coaching, and this is just another example of it.

Harbaugh loves having every advantage he can get in the game of football. If that means you know who is on the other team while they won’t know who is on your team, Harbaugh will take that offer up and run with it.

It is awkward that Harbaugh hasn’t updated the Michigan Wolverines football roster. Other Michigan Wolverines sports have released their rosters for the 2017-2018 season, like the basketball and hockey teams.

The New Jersey Advance Media was trying to rank the 15 best players from New Jersey in the Big Ten, and when they contacted the University of Michigan for an updated football roster, they were denied. A Michigan official said, “We have not posted a 2017 season roster and won’t until the first game week at the end of this month.”

Since Michigan is a public college, they are subjected to the Freedom Of Information Act, so the New Jersey Advance Media submitted a request for the roster on Aug. 3. Here was the reply that they received

"“Due to the large number of requests currently being processed by this office, it will not be possible to respond to your request within the five-day period accorded by the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. However, under Section 5 (2) (d) of the Act, the University is permitted to extend the deadline for not more than 10 business days beyond the initial due date. The University will respond to your request on or before August 25, 2017.”"

It looks like the New Jersey Advance Media will get the 2017-2018 roster when the official told them after all. Michigan opens the season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against the Florida Gators.
