The USMNT couldn’t get the job done on Tuesday, and because of that, they are not headed to Russia to compete in the World Cup.
The USMNT has frustrated people for years, but there might not be anything like how angry people were on Tuesday night. The United States took to the pitch in a World Cup qualifier to take on Trinidad and Tobago with their World Cup hopes on the line, and well, things didn’t really go as planned whatsoever.
When it was all said and done on Tuesday night, Trinidad and Tobago came away with the 2-1 win after Full Time, which means that there will be no trip to Russia next year for this squad. Yes, folks, the United States has officially missed out on a trip to the World Cup next year.
Over recent years, soccer has really caught on here in America, meaning the USMNT fanbase has grown by leaps and bounds. With that comes a lot of pride and passion, and to say that some people are not pleased with the result of Tuesday night might be one of the biggest understatements of the year.
All you had to do was look at Twitter to figure that out.
Pathetic.

Sick for @cpulisic_10 that he has to wait four more years after he's given his country so much ahead of his time ...

This is incredible. We could’ve asked the Golden State Warriors to qualify our country for the World Cup and they probably could’ve done it. https://t.co/yuQDkfDai7

Last time the USMNT missed a World Cup, I was doing what they did on the field tonight in a diaper.

So Iceland is in the World Cup and the United States is not? Huh.

The USMNT has robbed the entire country of a World Cup. 4 years wasted. I'm desolate.

There are more and more all over Twitter where these came from because people are understandably a little pissed off right now. This is the first time since 1986 that the United States has missed out on a trip to the World Cup, so this is a pretty tough pill to swallow.
This is only the beginning of the fallout from all this on Tuesday, as you know the wrath that will be brought down on manager Bruce Arena is just beginning. He’ll be dragged through the coals for the next few days and beyond, among other things.
People can be as angry as they want, but the fact of the matter is that no anger in this world is going to send this under-achieving team to Russia next year. That dream is dead.
