Brett Hundley gets the call for his first meaningful action as the Green Bay Packers’ backup quarterback Sunday after Aaron Rodgers left with a reported shoulder injury.

Brett Hundley didn’t make his regular-season NFL debut for the Green Bay Packers until Week 9 of his second season in 2016. Heading into Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis, Hundley had made a total of five mop-up appearances in blowouts.

That changed early in Sunday’s game when Hundley was forced into action after Aaron Rodgers was knocked out of the game after a hit by Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.

Hundley was a fifth-round pick by Green Bay out of UCLA in the 2015 NFL Draft after three years as a starter for the Bruins, where he put up gaudy stats — 9,966 yards, 75 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 40 career games to go with 1,747 yards and 30 touchdowns on the ground.

The backup’s only action this season came in Green Bay’s 35-14 win over the Chicago Bears on September 28, when he completed his only pass for no gain while getting three snaps late in the game.

Prior to Sunday, Hundley was 3-for-11 for 17 yards and an interception in five career appearances.

The game was scoreless in the first quarter when Rodgers was injured and his first pass was intercepted by Xavier Rhodes off a deflection.

The 24-year-old Phoenix native led UCLA to a 29-11 record in his three seasons there (2012-14), including wins in the 2013 Sun Bowl and 2014 Alamo Bowl.

The last time Rodgers missed a start was in 2013, when he was out for seven games with a broken collarbone. Green Bay was 2-4-1 in those games, with Seneca Wallace starting once, Scott Tolzien getting two starts and Matt Flynn being re-signed and starting four times.

If Rodgers is down for any significant time, Green Bay may seek quarterback help. Hundley is the only other QB on the active roster, while Joe Callahan is currently on the practice squad. Rookie Taysom Hill was cut by the Packers late in the preseason, but he is currently the third-string quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
