Main’s Mavericks – Week 7 DraftKings NFL GPP Advice

Main’s Mavericks is providing weekly DraftKings NFL GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, low-ownership plays destined to outperform value. As a general rule for this article, I target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). I will be using all of my picks in Week 7 DraftKings NFL GPP tournaments as boom-or-bust punt options. Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that $1,000,000 lineup.

How I did last week:

Case Keenum 5,000 vs GB (26th Priced QB) – 14.06 (16th QB)

Theo Riddick 4,300 @ NO (42nd Priced RB) – 10.30 (26th RB)

Jerick McKinnon 4,100 vs GB (46th Priced RB) – 25.90 (5th RB)

Jaron Brown 4,900 vs TB (36th Priced WR) – 4.00 (>50th WR)

Martavis Bryant 4,700 vs LAC (39th Priced WR) – 4.70 (>50th WR)

Ricardo Louis 3,900 @ HOU (68th Priced WR) – 5.50 (>50th WR)

George Kittle 3,400 vs JAX (18th Priced TE) – 8.60 (18th TE)

CHA CHING! We did it again at the running back position! My faithful readers cashed in on Jerick McKinnon last week and are back for more. For those of you not following Jerick McKinnon in week 6, he exploded for greater than 6 times his measly $4,100 price value. He put up 25.90 DK points, finishing as the 5th running back in week 6. Our other RB – Theo Riddick – put up a respectable 10.30 DK points, good for a top 20 finish. Case Keenum outperformed his value and finished as the 16th QB. Our receivers put together a decent effort, but were unable to cross the pylon, with 2 out of 4 receivers outperforming their DK pricing. Overall, it was a successful week. A top 5 finish and 5 of 7 Main’s Mavericks outperformed their pricing.

Through week 6, Main’s Mavericks has 6 top 10 finishers at their respective positions’. 3 of those top 10 finishers ranked 5th or better, with a 1st overall finish (CJ Anderson week 2).

DraftKings NFL
CINCINNATI, OH – SEPTEMBER 10: Joe Mixon /

DraftKings NFL GPP Picks

QB:

Tyrod Taylor 5,100 vs TB (25th Priced QB)

Why is Tyrod Taylor priced this low? Buffalo is coming off of a bye week and pitted against a Tampa Bay defense that gives up 19.74 points to opposing QBs (per fantasy.nfl.com). Tyrod has been average all year, but against much better defenses. To be completely honest, I do not care if Winston or Fitzpatrick start opposite Taylor. The matchup is too juicy to overlook.

RB:

Joe Mixon 5,000 @ PIT (29th Priced RB)

I love this play! Mixon’s usage has been steady – over 30 snaps per game weeks 3-5 (per fantasypros.com). He has been the best back thus far, and I see the training wheels finally coming off after the bye week. Pittsburgh allows the 7th most points to running backs, and its almost impossible to throw the ball to receivers against them. So I see a huge day for Mixon on the ground and out of the backfield. Play him with confidence.

Thomas Rawls 4,100 @ NYG (50th Priced RB)

Another amazing price! Rawls was on the field for 32 snaps in the week 5 win over the Rams (per fantasypros.com). Also, after the bye week I see a healthier Rawls taking over the bulk of the carries too.

 WR:

Kenny Stills 4,400 vs NYJ (43rd Priced WR)

Do I trust Jay Cutler? No. But I do not think that DeVante Parker will play this week. That puts Stills in a great position. If Parker suits up, Stills is an okay play, but I would lean Marquise Lee or one of my other plays.

Tyler Lockett 4,100 @ NYG (55th Priced WR)

This is one of my favorite contrarian plays! NYG has been getting great cornerback play. But with Jenkins and Apple covering Baldwin and Richardson, look for Lockett to get loose for a big play. Starting a 3rd WR against 2 strong starting CBs has produced strong results for me in the past.

Zay Jones 3,600 vs TB (80th Priced WR)

It looks like Jordan Matthews will still be out this week, so I am stacking Tyrod with Zay. As in the section about Tyrod, I already referenced Tamps Bay’s abysmal defense. An extra week of practice for Tyrod and Zay will prove fruitful for the rookie.

TE:

Ben Watson 3,000 vs @ MIN (24th Priced TE)

Baltimore’s WR game is weak to the max – not a Maxx Williams joke, just clarifying. With a matchup against a strong Minnesota secondary, Flacco will be forced into short passes to his RBs and TEs. Watson has been a favorite target of Flacco, receiving more than 5 targets per week (courtesy of fantasypros.com). I am betting that Ben finds the endzone this week.
