What should have been an ordinary errand becomes an extraordinary circumstance in Monday’s new episode of The Good Doctor, as the hit ABC medical drama makes Dr. Shaun Murphy part of his own next case.

Season 1, episode 8 is called “Apple” and gives Shaun (Freddie Highmore) a good scare when he finds himself on the scene of a robbery. While the situation eventually resolves itself, The Good Doctor uses it to explore how Shaun’s condition affects his life outside the hospital, and possibly the lives of others. While he’s trying to help, could he wind up making the situation worse?

Back at the hospital, the founding relationship of The Good Doctor season 1 takes a hit in “Apple” as well, when the robbery makes Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) rethink how he’s been handling his prodigy. Has he been doing enough for Shaun? Is there something else that needs to be done? It may be Thanksgiving week, but it’s business as usual on The Good Doctor.
