Sporting and Olympiacos meet in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday. Barcelona lead the group with 10 points, and along with Juventus are assured of at least a spot in the Europa League. Juventus are second with seven points, while Sporting have four and Olympiacos have one. Sporting can guarantee themselves of at least a spot in the Europa League with a win on Wednesday. Olympiacos will have to get at least a point off of Sporting and beat Juventus in their final game if they want to have a chance of continuing in Europe.
In the first matchup between these sides, Sporting jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. However, they almost coughed up the lead in the final minutes of the game. Felipe Pardo scored in the 89th and 90th minutes for Olympiacos but the Greek side could not find an equalizer. If the Greek side are going to keep their European hopes alive, they will need Pardo to have another big game.
In the reverse fixture, Sporting will rely on Bas Dost to be the focal point of their attack. The Dutch striker has been unbelievable since joining Sporting last season. Dost has scored 48 goals in 61 games since joining the Lisbon club.
