At The Game Awards 2017, a popular fighting game series made its return. The first trailer for Soulcalibur VI premiered, and fans are rejoicing.

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a new entry in the Soulcalibur series. In fact, Soulcalibur V released almost six years ago and it was a hit with the fans. Since then, we’ve been waiting to see if a new game would ever release. As of late, the fighting game genre has been stacked with games like Injustice 2, Tekken 7 and many others. Next year is looking great for the genre as well with DragonBall Fighter Z. Now, with the reveal of Soulcalibur VI, the genre is looking stronger than ever.

So far, from what we’ve seen and heard, details are still very minimal. All we know about this game is from what we’ve seen in the announcement trailer. It’s full of action, which is what we would expect from a fighting game. It also seems to stay true to its roots, which will keep fans content.

What sets this game apart from the rest is the weapons. The game has a huge emphasis on weapon-based fighting. With this, players are able to choose different characters who wield different weapons. Depending on your play-style, you can use characters who utilize big swords, small swords, or different types of weapons. Obviously, the ones with big swords move slower, but they do more damage.

Those with small swords move much fast, but they also do less damage. This is where the combos also get interesting. Of course, we still need to learn more about this game. However, based on what we’ve played in past games, we’re assuming they’ll adapt the same style while adding some new elements.

Soulcalibur VI will release in 2018.
