In the world of NBA podcasting (and content creation in general), it is easy to fall into a rut of making the same tired jokes again and again. They are usually harmless and most of the NBA Twitterati just nod and tacitly agree whether the tropes are accurate or not. Mocking Jeff Green trades. Poking fun at James Harden’s defense. And often, referring to Rajon Rondo as a damaging force merely hunting assists.

Here at Fastbreak Breakfast, we strive to pursue divergent topics and make more obscure jokes, but we too have taken potshots at Rondo. When he joined the Pelicans, we rolled our eyes imaging him cramping the court for Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. But currently he is doing his part quarterbacking a New Orleans team that somewhat surprisingly is over .500 and is winning games on the strength of a robust offense.

So on the latest episode, we offer our sincerest Breakfast in Bed apologies to Rondo. And hope in doing so we avoid the subsequent hex that we usually place on those we say “I’m sorry” too.

Also covered:

  • Is it okay to abandon your team as a fan? What about under EXTREME circumstances?
  • If you had the power to erase one event from the memory of NBA fans, what would you choose?
  • What other players have shot with the volume and lack of success as Russell Westbrook did against the Grizzlies?
  • If you adjust for age, who would win a basketball game between Tony Soprano’s crew and the characters of Mad Men?
