The games of week are in line with everyone’s favorite theme to the New Year, resolutions.

Ask any gym goer what their least favorite time of year is and most, well those who consistently work out, will say the month of January and maybe a week or two into February. It’s the time when the gyms are most packed with new members decked in freshly opened gear claiming they want to get in shape. That is until a few weeks pass and they realize no one actually likes exercising. (Seriously, the first trillionaire will be the person who re-engineers grease into a nutritional part of our diets — though I guess Big Gym wouldn’t like that.)

Unlike those goers and other cynics around the claims of improvement, I never mind the burst of new gym people or the surplus of resolutions that flood social media. We all want to do something different. We all want to add one more thing to make ourselves better employees or better writers or better people, and the New Year always represents the best time to work on it. (My resolution for example is to enjoy digging in the soil and worrying more about the process instead of relying on results only.) New Year’s resolutions are similar to when NBA players add to their arsenal, whether it’s committing to shooting more 3-pointers or defense; though sometimes, like us regular people, they don’t always go through with it.

New Year’s will always be the annual reset. It’s the time when retail stores lose sales after the holiday blitz and consumers start saving again after spending so much money. It’s the ultimate I’ll-start-on-Monday. And, as luck would have it, New Year’s 2018 is on a Monday, so it’s the Monday you said you’d start and the New Year.

I wish you the best of luck with your resolution. Here’s to hoping it turns from a claim into a habit and from a habit into a way of life. January may be the slowest month of the year. And it’s cold and gets dark around 4 p.m. What else are you going to do?

Here are the NBA games of the week centered on teams whose resolutions should reflect improvement in 2018. Basically, if a team finished last in a category, they’re on it.
