UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will reportedly defend his title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222.

The main event of UFC 218 was supposed to be a highly anticipated bout between current featherweight champion Max Holloway and former lightweight champion turned featherweight standout Frankie Edgar. A few weeks out from the fight, however, Edgar was forced to withdraw due to an injury suffered in training, which required a couple of months to heal.

Holloway went on to successfully defend his title against the man he already bested in his attempt to unify the featherweight championships, Jose Aldo, by way of third-round TKO. After the fight, a rebooking between he and Edgar was talked about, and it looks as though it may be happening sooner rather than later.

According to MMAjunkie, Holloway and Edgar are scheduled to fight at UFC 222 in March. This is around the exact time that Edgar said he would be ready to compete, considering that he remained next in line for a title shot.

For Edgar, this will be his third attempt to capture gold at 145. Having debuted at featherweight at UFC 156, Edgar fought Aldo in a five-round battle that would see him come up short in his quest to gain the title. “The Answer” received another chance at the gold, but this time for the interim featherweight title against Aldo yet again at UFC 200. He went on to lose a unanimous decision, forcing him to fight his way back into title contention.

Holloway will look to defend his title for the second time since winning and unifying the belts at UFC 212. Currently on a 12-fight win streak, Holloway has beat some of the best at featherweight, including the likes of Anthony Pettis, Cub Swanson and Ricardo Lamas. He has looked extremely dominant in the division he now reigns over, so it should be interesting to see how his style will clash with Edgar’s in their upcoming fight.
