Riding the wave of eSports popularity, the NBA is starting its very own NBA 2K League. The inaugural season begins in May and has 17 NBA franchises participating. Gamers are currently competing in an online combine with the hope of being one of those selected in the upcoming draft. Many details are still being worked out or haven’t yet been released, but Lang Whitaker (@langwhitaker), general manager of Grizz Gaming, joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast to get the most up to date information as possible.

After working for years for Slam Magazine and NBA.com, Lang took the GM position of the Grizzlies eSports team in December. He answer questions about the upcoming league and gives a behind the scenes look at what goes into managing an eSports team.

Among the topics he addresses:

  • At what point did he think about becoming involved with eSports?
  • How will the draft and the salaries of the players be handled? Are the gamers going to collectively bargain their rights? Will there be jerseys or uniforms? Will there be a David Stern-esque dress code?
  • Can a gamer be traded?
  • Unrelated to the 2K League, are there any changes or improvements Lang would like to see in the NBA2K series?
  • What is the office decorum of playing video games at his desk? Approved or frowned upon?
