Team USA added another gold, but Germany and Norway continued to extend their lead in the overall medal count at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Another day and another gold medal for Team USA. Mikaela Shiffrin won the gold medal in the women’s giant slalom event. It was the lone American medal on Thursday, but the countries atop the leader board in the medal count continued to extend their lead.

Norway, which has been jockeying for the top of the medal count leader board, now stands at 17 total (six gold, seven silver, four bronze) with a two medal lead over Germany (nine gold, two silver, four bronze).

Norway won four medals on Thursday, including gold in the men’s 20 km biathlon and women’s 10km free cross-country skiing. Germany walked away with gold in two team events, the team relay in luge and pair figure skating.

German Laura Dahlmeier won her third medal, this time a bronze in the biathlon women’s 15 km individual. Dahlmeier leads all Olympians in medals at the 2018 Winter Games. Five Germans in all have won multiple medals.
