Josh Allen’s flashes speed, accuracy at combine
By Elliot Howey

Josh Allen ran a 4.76 in the 40-yard dash at this years’ NFL combine, showing it’s not just his strong arm that has experts tipping him to be a top five pick.
Josh Allen has polarized opinion ahead of the draft, and has receive a lot of attention at this year’s NFL combine as a result. The biggest questions surrounding Allen focus on his arm, but he couldn’t have hurt his draft stock with an impressive 40-yard dash Saturday morning. Allen completed the sprint in 4.76 seconds, not bad for 6-foot-5, 234-pound quarterback.
ESPN’s Mel Kipper has pencilled in Josh Allen as his number one draft pick. Ryan Flahert, Nike’s senior director of performance, told the NFL Network this week that, “Josh Allen has one of the most incredibly gifted arms I’ve ever seen in my life.” Flahert also believes Allen will smash the miles per hour record: “I think the record is 66 or something. I think he can go 69, 70 miles an hour.” For comparison, Patrick Mahommes reached a speed of 60 MPH at last year’s combine.

However, it’s not all good news for Allen. Experts and possible future teams will be put off by the signal caller’s poor performance in his junior year at Wyoming. Allen didn’t play the full season due to injuries and when he was fit and available his performances weren’t up to the high standards he set during his sophomore year. These factors are among the reasons the quarterback has polarized opinion so much.
While the kid from Wyoming surprised scouts with his speed at the combine, they weren’t at all shocked by his arm. Allen, seen here hitting his targets with ease, showed arm strength and that accuracy which had been questioned by experts.

His throwing performance at the combine still doesn’t tell us how accurate he’ll be when the pressure’s on in a real game situation in the NFL. However, it will silence a few critics who have said Allen is all power and no accuracy.
