Liverpool and Newcastle meet Saturday at Anfield with both teams looking to pick up three points as they battle for positioning at both ends of the table. The Reds are battling for second, sitting two points behind Manchester United but only four points ahead of fifth-place Chelsea. Newcastle are looking to avoid relegation, one year after being promoted. The Magpies are 15th with 29 points but are only two points above Swansea and the relegation zone.

Mohamed Salah has been incredible for Liverpool this season, leading the club in scoring. Salah has scored five goals in Liverpool’s last four games. The Reds front three of Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have combined for 43 of the team’s 65 goals. The additional of Virgil van Dijk has helped solidify the back four for Klopp, allowing the German manager to keep mistake prone Dejan Lovren on the bench. Only five teams have allowed fewer goals than Liverpool.
Newcastle have picked up points in four straight games and in eight of their last 10 games. By picking up 14 points in their last 10 games, Rafa Benitez’s side have climbed out of the relegation zone. Dwight Gayle scored twice in the Magpies 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, giving him the team lead in goals. However, scoring goals this season has been a struggle for Newcastle, who have scored the sixth fewest goals in the Premier League. The Magpies will likely use a conservative approach against Liverpool and attempt to capitalize on any mistakes Liverpool makes defensively.
