League leaders Napoli host Roma at the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday, March 3. Here’s what you need to know before tuning in.

Napoli will face a tough test Saturday when they host Roma in Naples. Nonetheless, Napoli shouldn’t feel too much of a burden given Roma’s poor form as of late and the ability of the Partenopei to run up the score on even the strongest of Serie A opposition.

The Derby del Sud, as this match is often called, isn’t just a battle between two of the traditional powers not to reside in either Turin or Milan, but a rivalry that has often been heated, at times marred by violence, but always riveting. This season is no different given Napoli’s race to the top, where they currently have a four-point lead over Juventus. The Turin-based giants have a game in hand after last Sunday’s match against Atalanta was postponed due to heavy snow.

As for Napoli-Roma, ticket sales show that a crowd of at least 55,000 will pack the always-loud San Paolo for what should be an exciting contest. Napoli, fresh off their 5-0 drubbing of Cagliari on Monday night, are winners of their last 10 league matches. It’s those series of emphatic wins and the talents of strikers Jose Callejon, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne that have made Maurizio Sarri’s squad both fun to watch and lethal in the final third.

Napoli have scored 60 goals this season, less than both Juventus and third-place Lazio, but it’s the team’s ability to score early, and sometimes often, that beats teams into submission by halftime. At the same time, Napoli’s defense, led by two veteran Spaniards in goalkeeper Pepe Reina and defender Raul Albiol, have only conceded 15 goals in 26 games. That number is tied with Juve for the fewest in the league this season. Indeed, after their recent elimination from the Europa League, Napoli are all in when it comes to battling for their first Scudetto since 1990.

Roma are currently fifth and battling for a top four finish and a spot in the Champions League. The Giallorossi need the win after last week’s surprise 2-0 loss against an AC Milan side that’s regained form. Roma will need midfielder Radja Nainggolan to be in top shape against Napoli (he wasn’t versus AC Milan), while Kevin Strootman is also tasked with trying to get the attack moving.
