Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson will be out until the end of the month with a fractured thumb.

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson sustained a right thumb injury in Sunday’s 109-103 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves (Mar. 11.) The thumb injury was diagnosed as a fracture and Thompson is scheduled to be out until the end of the month. While Thompson isn’t out for long, he’s become the latest Warrior to become hit with the injury bug. Stephen Curry is currently out with an ankle injury, and won’t be re-evaluated until March 20. Draymond Green has been dealing with right shoulder soreness and missed last night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers (Mar. 14.) Patrick McCaw and David West also sat out of the same contest. So what does all of this mean for the Warriors?

According to Monte Poole from NBCSports.com/Bay Area, the team is being cautious with Thompson and Curry. The goal? To increase health, not the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

"The goal is for Curry to have eight or so games before the playoffs. He will be reevaluated next Tuesday, after which a timeline may be established.Klay Thompson, out with a fracture in his right thumb, also is scheduled for re-evaluation next week, two days after Curry. The Warriors are hopeful of getting him back the first week of April. The playoffs begin April 14."

The Warriors are currently the No. 2 seed in the NBA’s Western Conference. Since they are the NBA’s defending champions and have won two of the last three titles, pace and health are the priority.  For the Warriors, attaining the No. 1 seed means nothing without the health of the team’s core/rotation players. If the team is a No. 2 with everyone healthy, then they will be more dangerous than them being a No. 1 seed, and banged up.
