After being cut by the Raiders, punter Marquette King is staying the division going to punt in the thin air with the Broncos.

Marquette King has been one of the best punters in football the last few years. He has averaged 45+ yards per punt and 20 punts inside the 20 each year. Shockingly, Jon Gruden cut him last week because they reportedly had personality differences. However, per NFL rules, the two couldn’t have met yet, so Gruden was apparently going off of reputation.

Now, Gruden will have to live with his decision twice per season, with agreeing to a three-year, $7 million deal with the Denver Broncos.

After Shannon Sharpe suggested the pairing, both on Twitter and his show, it has come into fruition. King will be able to boom punts during home games, taking advantage of the altitude and thin air to pin back both Raiders and other opponents.

This deal will be beneficial for both sides. Last year, the Broncos had the second least-efficient offense in football. While Case Keenum is an upgrade over Brock Osweiler and Trevor Siemian, the offense still figures to struggle at times.

Since they can’t move the ball, having a top-tier punter will make the job of their 10th-ranked defense easier. Teams will have far more yards to cover against the Broncos , perhaps lending to a more aggressive scheme with opponents backed up.

King should be thrilled with his landing spot. While the Raiders do enjoy warm weather, the teams don’t project to be far apart in the standings this year, and the 29-year-old gets to enjoy the ultimate kicking advantage.
