The Washington Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 5 of their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.

After losing the first two games of the series at home, the Washington Capitals went to Columbus and won both games to even the series. The series returns to Washington for Game 5, with both teams looking to take an edge in the series.

Barry Trotz decision to start Philipp Grubauer was questionable heading into the playoffs. After struggling in the first two games of the series, Trotz decided to go back to Braden Holtby, who has posted a .940 save percentage, significantly better than Grubauer’s .837 save percentage. John Carlson is playing at a Conn Smythe level. The Capitals’ defenseman has eight points in the series and is averaging over 28 minutes per game. Carlson is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and will cash in after a strong playoff run.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are getting great play in net from Sergei Bobrovsky. No other goalie in the playoffs has faced as many shots per game than Bobrovsky. Washington is averaging over 41 shots per game. The Blue Jackets need to prevent Washington from getting shots and need to start taking more themselves. Columbus is only averaging 29 shots per game, despite playing three overtime games. The Blue Jackets needs to do a better job killing penalties. Washington is converting 35.7 percent of their man advantages.
