MLB DFS Standouts: April 23rd

Tonight’s MLB DFS slate features eight games, with Colorado (6.2), Oakland (5.2), New York (5.1), Houston (5), and Los Angeles (5), holding the best projected team totals. With expensive batters on teams like the Rockies, finding ways to save salary will be crucial for tonight’s slate. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS standouts from the perspective of batted ball data, line movement, batter splits, and stolen base upside.

MLB DFS Standouts: Batted Balls Stats

Manuel Margot – DK $4300, FD $2400

San Diego will get the benefit of playing in Coors Field tonight, in a game in which the Padres have a projected team total of 4.9 runs. Outfielder Manuel Margot should be leading off for the Padres and he’s been hitting the ball well of late. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 25 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 13%, over his yearly average. Margot should be considered on FanDuel, where he is extremely underpriced, at $2400.

Robinson Chirinos – DK $2900, FD $2500

Robinson Chirinos is a cheaper option to consider on tonight’s slate. He’s one of the few sources of power at the catching position, and could be a source of salary relief. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 55 feet, his exit velocity is up 6 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 26%, over his yearly average.

Batter Splits

Enrique Hernandez – DK $3300, FD $2500

The Dodgers will host the Miami Marlins tonight, and they’ll draw a matchup against lefty, Jarlin Garcia. This pitching matchup should benefit players like Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez, a righty, has drastic splits against left-handed pitching. He currently holds a .353 wOBA split (.111 better than when facing a righty) and a .238 ISO split (.126 better than when facing a righty). His value will depend on his spot in the order, but if he draws a spot in the top five, he’ll be a viable option.

Line Movement

Masahiro Tanaka – DK $8800, FD $9100

Masahiro Tanaka will draw the start for the Yankees tonight, as they face off against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Yankees opened as a -185 favorite but have seen some betting action driving them to their current price of -205. In addition to the movement on the side, the total has also dropped. The total opened at 9 runs and is now down a half of a run to a projected 8.5 run game. Tanaka struggled in his last two outings, but does have the strikeout upside needed to win on DraftKings and FanDuel. Tanaka has a K/9 of 10.102 and he is relatively cheap on DraftKings at only $8800.

Stolen Base Upside

Mike Trout – DK $5300, FD $5400

While not known for his base running, Mike Trout has grabbed three stolen bases on the year and could add to his total tonight. Trout will face the righty, Gerrit Cole, who allowed 17 stolen bases last year (15 most in the league) and allowed a stolen base percentage of 89%.
