After going down to 10 men only 10 minutes into the game, and having Diego Simeone sent to the stands, it looked like Atletico Madrid were in trouble. However, Atletico Madrid were able to leave London with a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Antoine Griezmann scored the tying goal for Atletico in the 82nd minute. The first leg result was disappointing for an Arsenal side that failed to capitalize on their man advantage. The second leg moves to Madrid, with both teams fighting for a spot in the Europa League final.

Thursday could be the final game Arsene Wenger manages Arsenal in European competitions. The French manager will leave the club at the end of the season after 22 games. Wenger elected to rotate most of his squad over the weekend against Manchester United, losing 2-1. However, the extra rest should benefit Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette. Arsenal will need to score at least once to match Atletico’s away goals advantage.

With Sime Vrsaljko serving his suspension, Juanfran and Filipe Luis both injured, Simeone will have to make changes to his starting XI. Simeone will have to play one of his defensive midfielders or center-backs at full-back to cover for the injuries and suspension. The lack of natural full-backs could leave Atletico exposed at the back but they have had some experience moving players around this season because of injuries. After scoring in the first leg, Griezmann and Diego Costa will be counted to lead the attack for Madrid.
