The Raptors are on the verge of a loss to the Cavaliers for the third consecutive year. For all their regular season reform, Toronto has failed to get over the LeBron James-shaped hump that has stood in its way for years, and will have to pull off a run unlike that of any other playoff team in order to avoid that fate. Kyle Lowry has played solidly all series, posting 22 points and eight assists per game on an 80.2 true shooting percentage. But DeMar DeRozan, who the Cavs have held to just 18 points on 46.5 true shooting, has struggled to get going.

LeBron James, meanwhile, has been absolutely dominant. The future Hall of Famer is averaging 35.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 11.3 assists while controlling nearly every possible facet of the game. James has sunk two game-winning shots and gone through stretches so dominant it’s impossible not to feel grateful to watch him play. After a slow start to the playoffs, Kevin Love has begun to click, averaging nearly 20 points and 13 rebounds for the series. Cleveland made it easy to fall into a trap of disbelief throughout the year, but when the world’s best player exacts his will so commandingly, it serves to remind the NBA why LeBron advancing to the Finals has become a formality.
